Nigel Marple
Nigel’s extraordinary 40-year career as a professional photojournalist started at The Daily Telegraph in Napier when he was 18 years old.  His career quickly took off and saw him working with The Dominion in Wellington and the NZ Herald in Auckland, the latter of which is where he got his first taste of conflict zones covering the Fiji coups in the 80s. In the 90s Nigel moved to London to work for the Associated Press.  During this time, he was contracted out to the Sunday Times and various other newspapers and agencies covering mostly sport, news and features.

The events were wide and varied, from sports events such as the Olympics, Rugby World Cup and America’s Cup, to conflicts such as the siege of Sarajevo and the Somalian civil war.  After 6 weeks in Somalia’s “hell hole” Nigel couldn’t wait to get out. His replacement was stoned to death a few days after he left.

Nigel returned home in the mid-90s and was headhunted by Reuters news agency and TIME magazine.  He contracted to both at the same time; Reuters for 25 years until just recently, and TIME for 15 years until they closed their doors during the recession in 2009.  Nigel secured four TIME covers during his 15-year stint (and many features) – an extraordinary accomplishment given one TIME cover was considered the pinnacle of success by those in the industry.

Update
Nigel tragically died in March 2025 so this is the last of his Limited Edition prints available.
